Emily Bell is Professor of Journalism and Director of the Tow Center at Columbia University.
Previously I was Director of Digital Content for Guardian News and Media, Editor-in-Chief of guardian.co.uk, founder of mediaguardian.co.uk, Business Editor of the Observer , a foot soldier in the advertising trenches of Campaign magazine and I started my career as a trainee reporter for Big Farm Weekly, a title which sadly doesn’t exist any more.
Official interests are Arsenal FC, wine, food – the preparation and consumption thereof, the seaside, art, literature, the opera, going to Glastonbury, her husband and managing her children (haphazardly). Unofficially I watch an awful lot of TV.
In the full disclosure portion of this entry – I still have writing/consulting contractual ties to Guardian News and Media, and sit on the advisory board of the wonderful Journal Register Company. I attempt to always disclose my interests if I write about them, but, given the aging process sometimes forget. So I log them here too.
From Harlem to Hackney and beyond.
